Matthew Whiteside is a Belfast based composer born 1988. He is in his final year of a Bachelor of Music in Queen’s University Belfast, within it studying composition with Prof. Piers Hellawell. At Queen’s Matthew has successfully organised two Queen’s Composers’ Concerts showcasing works from composers working within the University.

Recent performed works include Puddle Wonderful, a short opera for Spark Opera Company, Beyond the Tone, performed in York at CNMC, Quartet No. 1 and Untitled, performed at the Queen’s Composers’ Concerts, and a sound track to the short film Applemen from the play The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh. Matthew is interested primarily in instrumental music but has occasional exploits into electro-acoustic music.
