New music for Soprano and Viola
a concert of new music for Soprano and Viola
The Irish Composers' Collective's first concert of 2012 is a programme of new works for viola and soprano by six member composers. Including a jazz-inspired waltz (“Shades of Meaning”), a moving musical plea for “Organ Donation”, settings of Emily Dickinson and Yeats, and a piece of aural hallucination (“Illo-Cuper-Locu”), this January concert showcases the variety of feeling and approach within new Irish music.
Sue Rynhart is a soprano whose interests range from early music to contemporary. She holds both a BA and MA in Music from NUI Maynooth, and has sung with chamber choirs, improvising vocal trio Voices, Jazz Orchestra Fuzzy Logic Ensemble and performs Lute songs with Chris Goodwin & The Dublin Madrigal Consort. Sue is currently a singing teacher at Newpark Music Centre.
Abigail Smith is a multi-instrumentalist and song-writer. As well as releasing her own album “Night Time Walking”, she has appeared on those of David Kitt, 3epkano, Somadrone and Goodtime John, and was selected to play at the 2008 Electric Picnic. She was commissioned to write music for the animated film “Trolley Boy” and to write a piece for the Diversus Guitar Ensemble. Abigail co-founded the string quartet Stringology and was awarded a Music Bursary from the Irish Arts Council of Ireland to write a song cycle in 2010. This and her next album will be released in 2012.
