Mark Gillan was born in 1958 in Galway, Ireland, where he began his musical education. He went on to study composition and keyboard at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin with Dr J Groccock and Ms Gillian Smith. He has concentrated on composition over the past six years, recently completing a Felowship with the University of London. His work is based on neo-classical idioms, using sonata form and melodic ideas of tonality. While his main instrument is the Harpsichord, he has also worked with organ, violin, and piano.
